Annita Phypers

(She/Her)

BA, MC, CCC,

Its nice to meet you!

For myself, life has been an adventure. Some mountaintops with amazing views, some valleys of loss, learning and growth. I have lived half of my life in the far north (Alaska, Yukon and Northwest Territories).  In relationship I have been privileged to experience family, chosen family,  parenting and partnership. I love any creative process, which sometimes looks like making pottery,  writing, painting or just taking the backroad.

One of my greatest life adventures has been working with clients in counselling. I have been employed in the mental health field for many years and love the creative process of supporting clients with mental health and wellness.

My hope is that those who come in to counselling might find it to be a grounding experience, a solid base. As individuals leave counselling I hope they can move from this solid base with clear direction, connected with self and others. No matter what your lived experience may have been so far, I am happy to work with you as you actively create what you want going forward.

Values

My Approach

Integrative

People are not one size fit all and therefore I use an integrative approach is adaptive to the individual sitting in front of me. I pull from many different orientations such as Somatic Attachment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Strengths-based Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Expressive Arts. As I learn new techniques I continue to integrate different approaches into my work with individuals.

Somatic Attachment Therapy

This form of therapy combines body awareness with attachment theory to address emotional and relational challenges. It starts by exploring how early relationships shape current emotional and relational patterns. The therapy emphasizes the connection between physical sensations and emotions, using techniques like mindfulness, breathwork, and movement exercises to help individuals tune into and process their bodily experiences. By releasing stored physical tensions and traumas, the therapy aims to improve emotional regulation and foster healthier relationships. In essence, it integrates physical and emotional experiences to facilitate holistic healing and personal growth.

Strengths-Based Therapy

You are the expert of you. We focus on identifying and using a person’s existing strengths and resources to tackle challenges and reach goals. Instead of focusing on problems, this approach highlights what clients are already good at and helps them use these abilities to improve their lives. It emphasizes empowerment, collaboration, and positive thinking, aiming to build confidence and resilience while setting meaningful goals.

Expressive Arts Based Therapy

This form of therapy uses creative activities—such as drawing, painting, music, dance, and writing—to help individuals explore and express their emotions and experiences. It focuses on the creative process rather than the final product, allowing people to communicate and process feelings in a nonverbal way. This therapy can enhance self-awareness, reduce stress, and facilitate personal growth by tapping into the healing power of artistic expression.
