If you grew up in a faith community that taught you parts of who you are were wrong, it can leave deep wounds

Especially when those messages came from people or institutions you trusted.
Maybe you still hold on to your spirituality but feel unsure how it fits with your identity. Or maybe you’ve walked away from religion altogether and are still trying to make sense of what you believe now.

LGBTQ+ Religious Trauma Therapy provides a safe, non-judgmental space to unpack that pain. Together, we’ll gently explore how those experiences have shaped your sense of self, your body, and your connection to others — so you can begin to heal, reclaim your voice, and move toward a life rooted in authenticity and peace.

Who Is it For?

LGBTQ+ individuals who have experienced harm, shame, or rejection in religious or spiritual spaces.

What it helps with:
What to expect:

A compassionate, affirming space to untangle the messages that caused harm, reconnect with your truth, and rediscover peace within yourself — whatever spirituality or belief means to you now.

What Is LGBTQ+ Religious Trauma Therapy?

Religious trauma therapy is a trauma-informed, affirming process that helps individuals heal from the emotional, psychological, and spiritual harm caused by rigid or oppressive religious systems. At Rise and Reflect Counselling, we create a compassionate space to process religious messaging, explore your identity outside of shame, and rebuild your relationship with spirituality — in whatever way feels right for you. We use an integrative approach that combines Narrative Therapy, Somatic Awareness, and Mindfulness to help you understand how these experiences live in your body and mind. This work supports both emotional healing and reconnection with your inner sense of truth and safety.

Robin Davidson

Spiritual Health Practitioner

I am a lifelong learner and I love engaging in the process of growing, healing and learning about myself. I am passionate about being a companion to others in a way that helps them discover and grow in self-understanding, self-compassion and self-trust.

I am the mom of 3 awesome adult kids and a new grandma which is the absolute best!

I love tending to my garden, the birds in my yard and find peace and beauty in the mountains, water and kayaking. I continue learning through reading, listening to podcasts, taking courses, travelling and listening to people’s lives through story.

I am formally educated with a Masters in Spiritual Formation and Certified in Spiritual Direction from George Fox Seminary. I completed 4 Units of CPE (Clinical Psychospiritual Education) jointly through Ambrose University and Foothills Medical Center in Calgary and have trained and received Grief Care Professional Certificates.

I have also experienced the honor of listening and providing emotional/spiritual support to hundreds of people in Acute Care settings and in Palliative care. As much as I believe in the value of Education, my heart desire has always been to be a loving, listening presence to people. It took me a long time to value my own grief, my own story and now it is deeply fulfilling to assist others in a similar journey.
